Welcome. We opened this site a few years ago to promote
one of our publications and now, with various requests
to have us sell individual collections, we are expanding
and updating this site.
Pen collecting took hold for me several
decades ago. I discovered a handful of other like minded
individuals including John Gardiner, former President
of Sheaffer Canada, and Ken Rowe, the director of Toronto’s
Sick Children’s Hospital. Together, we formed
a pen club in the early 1980s. My first pen show took
place at Columbus, Ohio on September 9, 1984. How things
have changed since that show. Although I am a pen collector
at heart, my hobby has become a profession for the last
ten years. I have been fortunate enough to have handled
some of the most interesting pens and equally lucky
enough to have succeeded in selling incredible collections,
such as those of Michael Jennings and Marvin Stone.
We are now in a new era of collecting.
Information is something which is no longer in short
supply, thanks to a number of professional and helpful
full time dealers and passionate hobbyists, and pen
organizations including the Pen Collectors of America
and the Writing Equipment Society of England. There
are also dozens of books, specialty pen magazines around
the world and web sites of every description out there
to assist you in your quest to educate yourself before
building a collection. For the newcomer, it is relatively
easy to track prices and production runs of vintage
and modern pens which makes for more intelligent buying
decisions.
We believe that the very best of the best, the unusual
and rare or scarce, high end items will always be desirable
and worth owning. Prices may fluctuate but hand made,
rare items will always be in demand and hard to replace.
I believe that there are enough collectors out there
who are willing to pursue their passion to acquire the
very best they can afford and to buy with confidence.
The dividends of personal satisfaction from assembling
a first rate collection can never be overlooked. This
is why I believe that when a man is tired of pens, he
is tired of life!
Stephen Overbury continues to buy and
sell quality writing instruments and related items,
especially items of historical interest which led to
the development of the modern fountain pen. We also
maintain a large inventory of choice ephemera of all
kinds. If you are thinking of selling an item of importance,
or an entire collection, contact us for a free assessment
